1. Academic Improvement
Grades and Test Scores: Monitoring changes in participants' academic performance to see improvements in grades and standardized test results.
School Attendance: Tracking attendance records to ensure participants are consistently attending school, which is crucial for academic success.
Graduation Rates: Keeping an eye on the number of program participants who graduate from high school or achieve educational milestones.
2. Behavioral Changes
Disciplinary Records: Observing reductions in behavioral incidents at school or within the community.
Social Skills Development: Assessing improvements in communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills through observations and feedback.

3. Life Skills Acquisition
Eight-Week Life Skill Classes: All participants engage in eight weeks of life skill classes each year, covering essential topics like cooking, budgeting, laundry, tool use, basic home repair, first aid, leadership, how to rent an apartment, purchase a car, and woodworking and others.
Pretest and Post-Test Assessments: Before each class, participants take a pretest, and at the end of the class, they take a post-test. The average pretest score is 10%, while the average post-test score is 83%, demonstrating significant learning and retention.
Financial Literacy: Utilizing the unique point system to teach and measure understanding of budgeting, saving, and responsible spending.
Work Ethic and Job Skills: A key measure is observing participants showing up on time and working diligently during their assigned tasks in various work areas.
Work Areas Fostering Work Ethic
KUO operates six primary work areas where youth can develop and demonstrate a strong work ethic:
SpruceUP Specialists Activities: Yard cleanup, weed pulling, mulching, and other outdoor tasks. Success Measures: Punctuality, consistent attendance, commitment to completing tasks thoroughly and customer feedback.
UP Creations Activities: Crafting items that are sold at craft shows. Success Measures: Creativity, craftsmanship, productivity, the ability to meet production goals and understanding profit/loss.
From the Ground UP Urban Farms Activities: Growing vegetables specifically for Yoke Social Table. Success Measures: Agricultural skills, responsibility in plant care, teamwork, reliability in farm duties, setting price for profit.
What UP Dough? Cookies Activities: Baking cookies for Gravity Trampoline. Success Measures: Quality control, adherence to recipes, food safety meeting order deadlines, and teamwork in the kitchen.
BuildUP Fabrication Center Activities: Custom Woodworking projects, 3D printing, and soon metal work. Success Measures: Skill development, precision, creativity, adherence to project timelines, customer satisfaction, pricing for a profit.
CleanUP Crews Activities: Cleaning KUO facilities. Success Measures: Attention to detail, reliability, and maintaining cleanliness standards.
HandUP Activities: Special needs kids interning at Goodwill. Success Measures: Integration into workplace settings, task completion, social interaction, and personal growth.

Activities: Participants are paid by KUO and intern with local businesses to gain real-world experience.

Description: T-shirt making work area.
Activities: Designing and producing custom t-shirts.
Success Measures: Creativity in design, production quality, meeting order deadlines, and teamwork.
Elevate Up Creations
Description: Digital designs.

Write it UP
Description: Continuation of the Talking Toolbox Book children's book series.
